on your marks... getting race day ready for the commonwealth games

From the April 4th -15th, 2018, the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games offered 11 unforgettable days of world class sporting competition. AFI Branding and Active Display Group jointly pitched and won the contract to supply and install all signage for the event.

the logistics

AFI directly produced around 11,000 items of signage with perimeters totalling 132km in length, enough to stretch from Melbourne beyond Nagambie, with areas totalling nearly 9 hectares - equivalent to 9 rugby fields. More specifically we produced over 25km of fence mesh, 2,500 crowd control barrier covers, 170 temporary flag poles, 13,000m2 of grandstand wrap and 170 custom wall treatments.

the timings

The pressure was on from the start. The entire project length was around seven months and required the outsourced help of installers and warehouse space near the location. As more than 6,600 athletes and team officials from 71 nations and territories came to Queensland for the event, it was an extraordinary sight to see. Further orders came in to cover last minute requirements, producing additional signs in the last days leading up to the Opening Event.

the result

AFI Branding produced every sign needed - from corflutes, self-adhesive signs and ground graphics, free standing and way-finding signs, to custom pull-ups and grandstand wraps which required specialist engineering expertise and sizeable installation teams. The event was nothing short of a success and could not have been done without the dedication and hard work from the AFI team.
